Abstract

GeoMimic is a team of ambitious engineers dedicated to protecting soldiers’ lives with the GeoMimicker, an innovative rapid vehicle camouflage concealment system. This mechanical design reduces the time and effort required for deploying and retracting camouflage concealment netting, minimizing soldiers’ exposure time, and enhancing overall productivity. GeoMimic focuses on maximizing system effectiveness while ensuring operational reliability, with plans to attract military funding by emphasizing the minimal cost per soldier life saved. The GeoMimicker employs a horizontally mounted spool sub-system that utilizes a crank to gather cords and consolidate the netting into a crate. This crate is securely fastened in the vehicle bed through support rods and U-bolts. The choice of 550 Type III paracord for retracting netting edges was driven by its exceptional durability and wide availability. The final camouflage netting cord configuration strategically positions attachment points, ensuring efficient consolidation toward the central crate regardless of weather or terrain conditions. Through rigorous testing and refinement, our innovative mechanism not only successfully addressed the limitations of the current ULCANS but also demonstrated its efficacy in reducing the setup time to a fraction of the original effort. This advancement in military camouflage technology provides a more expedient and adaptable solution for concealing vehicles in enemy territories, withstanding diverse environmental challenges and ensuring practicality in a range of operational scenarios.
